According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is rumored to launch its first pair of smart glasses as soon as 2026. The report suggests that this is Apple’s answer to Meta’s Ray-Ban mart glasses. The company is expected to start producing large quantities of prototypes by the end of this year.

It might seem like a direct competitor to Meta’s Ray-Bans. However, given the launch of Android XR at I/O 2025, we can’t help but feel that this could be Apple’s answer to Google’s own smart glasses ambitions.

So, what can we expect from Apple’s smart glasses? According to the report, the glasses will come with built-in cameras, microphones, and speakers. This will allow the glasses to take in their surroundings and also allow users to interact with Siri. Hopefully, by the time the glasses launch, the revamped Siri powered by Apple Intelligence will have gone live. Otherwise, given the current state of Siri, Apple users might be better off talking to themselves.

That being said, just because Apple is launching a pair of smart glasses doesn’t mean it’s done with the Vision Pro. We have heard rumors that Apple is actually working on two new versions of the headset. One will be a cheaper and lighter model, and the other is rumored to be a tethered model that can connect to devices like the Mac.

The Vision Pro and smart glasses, while sharing a similar concept, address two different types of users. The smart glasses are designed more for everyday use.
