Chrome’s new feature makes leaked passwords your browser’s problem

Google is now automating the process of users changing stolen or weak passwords with a new feature it has brought to Chrome’s password manager. Announced at the 2025 I/O developer conference, Google Chrome’s new authentication feature warns users if their website login password is at risk and displays a “Change it for me” button on the screen.
When you click on this button, Chrome will do everything it needs for you. It will automatically change your password in a few seconds.
Google Chrome has introduced an authentication feature that automates password changes
With the new Google Chrome feature, you no longer have to manually change compromised passwords. The browser checks your password when you log in to a website and displays a warning if it finds the password compromised. The warning will appear in the upper-right corner.

Google’s latest blog post says the warning window will show the following: “Your password was found in a data breach. Chrome can update your account for this site with a strong password. You won’t need to remember the password because it’s saved for you in Google Password Manager for [email protected].”
This seems like a handy feature, especially in 2025, when hackers are constantly trying new methods to steal user data, and all passwords are potentially at risk. Automatically changing compromised or leaked passwords will save users a lot of trouble.
All password managers may get this feature in the future
This infrastructure, developed by Google, only covers Chrome’s password manager for now. However, if many users adopt the feature, other password managers could follow and implement it as well. Google is urging site developers to speed up this process and expects them to integrate the system. Yeah, website developers need to manually add support for this new feature.
That’s not the only new feature for Google Chrome. Starting today, Google is bringing its Gemini AI assistant directly to the desktop Chrome browser for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US. This way, users can access Gemini more easily and get a smarter browsing experience.
