Amazon US has expanded its drone delivery service to include a new category of items, including Apple’s iPhones, Samsung’s Galaxy phones, and more. In total, the e-commerce giant now has more than 60,000 items eligible for drone delivery. The company claims that its drone delivery service takes 60 minutes or less from when you place your order.

Amazon now delivers Galaxy devices and more via drones

Amazon US has announced that it’s never been easier to receive a drone delivery from the platform if you live in one of the locations where it currently offers the service. Recently, Amazon’s drone delivery service received approval from the FAA to deliver several new items, including devices like Apple’s iPhones, Samsung’s Galaxy phones, Apple’s AirTags, AirPods, Ring Doorbells, and Alpha Grillers Instant Read Food Thermometers.

Amazon is ramping up its Prime Air delivery service, which promises to deliver your next smartphone with the new MK30 drone in an hour or less. The company will provide this service in eligible areas in Texas and Arizona.

Here’s how Amazon drones will deliver your items

In a detailed post, Amazon explained that you can go to its website or the shopping app and choose from over 60,000 items eligible for drone delivery. Simply select the drone delivery option at checkout if you’re in an eligible area. It’s worth mentioning that the total cart item must weigh under 5 pounds to be eligible for delivery via drones.

From there, you can select and confirm your preferred delivery spot at your address. It can include a driveway or yard. Additionally, you won’t need to confirm your delivery point for your next order. Once receiving the order, Amazon’s MK30 delivery drone will accurately determine how long it’ll take to fly to your address and drop the package. Amazon will provide you with a near-exact delivery time for your item.

The tech giant says this ordering process is the result of “two years of building and incorporating a digital map into the drone’s computer with eligible addresses.” Once the drone reaches your delivery point, it’ll verify if it’s in the right location and then deliver it, but not before making sure the area is clear of pets, cars, or people. It goes without saying that Amazon’s drone delivery service won’t be available in adverse weather conditions.
