The Indian Armed Forces have launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, a strategic military action targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), the Ministry of Defence said, as per ANI.

The operation was conducted in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in which 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national were killed.

Ministry of Defence: “Focused, measured and non-escalatory”

According to an ANI report which cited the Ministry of Defence, nine sites were hit in the operation.

A statement from the ministry underlined the precision and restraint of the Indian strikes: “Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted.”

The ministry emphasised that India exercised “considerable restraint” in selecting both the targets and the method of execution.

Accountability for Pahalgam attack

The Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives including a Nepali citizen, has been described by the Indian government as “barbaric”. The Ministry reaffirmed India’s resolve to hold perpetrators accountable: “We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable.”

A detailed briefing on Operation Sindoor is expected later today, the Defence Ministry added.
