Security tightened in Dharwad district

In the wake of the Indo-Pak conflict and to contain possible repercussions, the police have taken several measures to ensure law and order in Dharwad district.

Speaking at a meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) in Dharwad on Monday, Superintendent of Police Gopal Byakod said that at the inter-district borders nine check posts had been set up and they had intensified checking of vehicles entering the district.

These check posts were being manned by armed police personnel and there was strict vigil on the movement of people and activities.

Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar said they had taken steps to keep a vigil over strategic places in the twin cities and they had set up 15 check posts. This apart, social media monitoring cells had been set up in 35 police stations of Hubballi-Dharwad, he said.

Chairing the meeting, chairperson of DDMC and Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Divya Prabhu G.R.J. said that the meeting was being conducted as per the Chief Minister’s directions.

Ms. Prabhu asked the officials of various departments to ensure that people did not panic, and to prevent any attempt to increase prices of essential commodities and also attempts to create artificial scarcity.
