The government will shift over 16 lakh tonnes of paddy to rice mills across East Godavari district to avoid damage due to rains.

As of Sunday (May 4), over 2.5 lakh tonnes of paddy has been procured across the district. In a meeting with officials to review the preparedness to tackle rains during procurement, East Godavari District Collector P. Prasanthi said the government was preparing to procure paddy beyond the target for the rabi season 2025 in the wake of the sudden rains over the past few days.

All gram panchayats and panchayat secretariats have been told to keep an eye on the Godavari river, given the heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation has been directed to remove heavy advertisement hoardings in the wake of heavy winds over the past few days.
